Introduction

Welcome back to the Manifold Labs blog! June was a very busy month for Manifold. Our topics for this blog post include: Subnet 4 incentive curves and how we have improved them, Sybil improvements and roadmap, and how to enter our first merch giveaway next week!

Subnet 4 Incentive Curves

Manifold believes that only miners who do useful work on Bittensor should be rewarded with incentive, and that competition between these miners should be fierce. As Bittensor continues to grow, subnet incentive design is becoming increasingly important. By requiring miners to run the same model (mlabonne/NeuralDaredevil-7B), we can ensure high-quality responses. With high-quality responses guaranteed, we can then focus on miner response speed (measured in tokens per second). This design change has resulted in an exponential incentive curve (as opposed to a flat one), where the best performing miners receive the lion's share of the rewards. We have recorded an increase from 30 to 120 tokens per second by the top performing miners.

Shown in the below graphic is proof that competition is returning to Subnet 4's Targon. We interpret these registration fights as a positive for proper incentive in our subnet. We plan to keep competition fierce and the hardest workers continue to make their fair share.

As Targon v2 comes we’ll be monitoring the continued token/sec increase where we’ll be providing a public dashboard to monitor the subnet’s performance.

Sybil Improvements

Additionally, Sybil has undergone some noticable improvements. To begin we overhauled our UI to improve the look and feel of the search engine. Included in this month's update are "tabs". To complement the existing text-based search, we have added image functionality. In the coming months, we plan to implement an improved answers tab with an enhanced index to make Sybil increasingly more personalized for each user.

We have also changed our index to improve the quality of links provided. With an improvement of link quality we hope to have more people change their default search engine to Sybil.
